A Plan for Gaza: Demilitarization and Internationalization
It may be somewhat early to discuss a comprehensive solution for the future of the Palestinian state on the one hand and to predict the way the global war with terrorism will end on the other hand. But it is urgent to remember the intentions of the Iranian and Syrian regimes and their proxy, Hezbollah, when thinking in terms of saving the civilian populations of Gaza from war, shielding the Israeli populations from rockets and avoiding an escalation of violence that could engulf the entire region.
A Chance to Improve the United Nations
In recent times the United Nations has become the target of criticisms, particularly in the United States. However, the failure of the United States to pay its dues to the organization has considerably hindered its work and reduced its effectiveness. The election of a new U.S. president is a unique chance for improving the United Nations and to make it even more responsive to the needs of people around the world.

POLITICAL FUTURE UNCERTAIN: The Hamas leadership have supported the idea of holding Palestinian presidential elections and indicated they would run a candidate of their own. Those members are now in hiding or are dead from the extensive Israeli military onslaught of Gaza. The photo shows PA President Mahmoud Abbas during a U.N. Security Council meeting on the Gaza crisis in New York on Jan. 6. (Photoshot via Newscom) FULL STORY

The waning days of the U.S. presidency of George W. Bush is now best remembered for the "shoe-icide," as the headline in the New York Daily News had it when the Iraqi journalist, Muntazer al-Zaidi, threw his shoes at the visiting U.S. leader in Baghdad during his farewell visit which he had hoped to be his "victory lap."
