The court in UAE member Ras al-Khaimah on Sunday also slapped a suspended fine of 50,000 dirhams ($13,600) on Mohammad Rashed al-Shehhi, his defense lawyer Abdullah Omran said.
He said another part of the ruling, which was not suspended, ordered the closure of the electronic site, majan.net.
The ruling came after the health ministry official who sued Shehhi, who is free on bail, dropped the defamation complaint.
The Web site has already been closed by court order since August in a case that has drawn criticism from human rights and media watchdogs.
A Ras al-Khaimah court is due to rule on November 19 on Shehhi's appeal in two other defamation cases in which he was sentenced to a total of 17 months in jail and fined $19,000.
The two plaintiffs, also health ministry officials, have dropped their complaints, amid calls in the press for closing the case after UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed al-Maktoum decreed that journalists should not be jailed over their work.
Sheikh Mohammad is ruler of UAE member Dubai, which hosts scores of regional and international news organizations. Two Dubai-based foreign journalists had jail sentences for libel quashed by an appeal court last week.
Another Emirati sentenced to five months in prison for allegedly slandering a local official on Shehhi's Web site, Khaled al-Asli, will have his appeal heard on November 26.
Asli, who denies writing the article posted under a pen name and is free on bail, said the official who sued him has dropped the complaint.
