President George W. Bush's official reelection website was down and inaccessible for hours on Tuesday, in what campaign officials said could be the work of hackers.

Web surfers seeking information on the president's latest bon mot or appearances at www.georgewbush.com, were greeted with an error message.

A Google search for 'georgewbush' offered a number of alternatives, including Bushisms and Bush humor at politicalhumor.about.com or the website parody georgewbush.org, complete with spoof news stories and satirical bumper stickers.

"President's Convention Acceptance Speech Unveiling Detailed Plans for Tons More Good and Way Less Evil," went one headline.

"President Explains the Economic Miracles of Jobless Recovery and Deficit Spending," read another. "President Reassures Base: 'No Impotent Creationist NASCAR Dad Left Behind,'" said a third.

Visitors were also offered a clutch of bumper stickers such as: "Bush, Quagmire Accomplished 04," "Bush, American Monarch 04," and "Moron Psycho 04."

The campaign did not return calls seeking comment.
