KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The U.S. Transportation Security Administration announced the appointment of a new head of federal security at the Kansas City International Airport.

TSA officials named 30-year Army veteran John Della Jacono as the new Kansas City International Airport federal security director. Taking the new top federal security position, Jacono also will be responsible for overseeing security operations at four additional regional airports in Missouri.

Before being assigned to Kansas City, Della Jacono was the acting federal security director at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Additionally, while in the Army, Della Jacono served as the deputy director for security matters at U.S. European Command in Germany.

"John came to TSA after a long and distinguished military career, where he demonstrated exemplary command, leadership and staff skills in the United States Army and Military Police Corps," Mo McGowan, TSA assistant administrator for security operations, said in a statement.

"That career prepared him well for overseeing the TSA workforce and security operations as the deputy federal security director at Seattle, and we are very pleased that he has now accepted the position as the federal security director at Kansas City."
