Al-Hayat (LONDON): 'Decisive Evidence Against Bashir, Arrest Warrant Expected in Three Months' – The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Luis Moreno Ocampo, said in an interview with Al-Hayat that the court is expected to issue an arrest warrant for Sudanese President Omar Bashir within the next three months on war crime charges in Darfur. Ocampo insisted that the prosecution has collected substantial evidence that Bashir gave orders to attack "innocents in Darfur," adding that he had a strong case to prosecute and will not abandon the case for political reasons.
Al-Mustaqbal (LEBANON): Israel's Latest Call to Destroy Lebanese Army – The Israeli threats have escalated against Lebanon in the past week, as current and reserve military officers have been calling for regarding all of Lebanon, not just Hezbollah, as an enemy. Israeli newspapers have been quoting top officers as saying that Israel should launch fierce air strikes against Shiite villages in Lebanon and to destroy the Lebanese army.
Al-Quds (EAST JERUSALEM): Settlers Set Up Hundreds of Outposts in West Bank – New Israeli information has revealed that 400 housing prefabs that were previously dismantled have been set up in the West Bank in the past year without planning, despite outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's vow not to build new settlements in the territories. With these units, 15,000 new Jewish settlers have been added in the West Bank this year.
Al-Masry al-Youm (EGYPT): Egypt Announces Opening Embassy in Iraq – Three years after the murder of Egypt's ambassador in Iraq, Ihab al-Sherif, Egypt announced yesterday it has agreed to reopen its embassy in Baghdad. Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit made the announcement during a visit to the Iraqi capital on Sunday. He told reporters the decision came late because Egypt was the only country whose ambassador was killed in Iraq, which had led Cairo to delay reinstating a new envoy.
Ad-Dustour (JORDAN): Intensive Efforts to Find Jordanian Family Kidnapped in Beirut – Jordan's ambassador in Lebanon, Ziyad Majali, told Ad-Dustour there are intensive Lebanese efforts to find a Jordanian family that was kidnapped in Beirut last week. A Jordanian woman and her three young daughters were kidnapped in their car while on holiday in Beirut during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
