British soldiers have been smuggling guns out of Iraq and allegedly exchanging them for cocaine and cash on the black market, it has been reported.

At least one soldier has been arrested in a "guns for cocaine" ring that Britain's Royal Military Police say may have been involved with organized crime in Germany, The Sunday Times of London reported Sunday.

Military police say the stolen weapons, mostly handguns, were smuggled into Germany and sold for drugs that were then sold to other British soldiers serving in Iraq, the newspaper reports.

It is not clear if the guns came from the British army or were seized from Iraqi insurgent groups. Britain's defense ministry confirmed the investigation, but declined further comment.
