A Sharia judge in Indonesia's tsunami-ravaged Aceh region says the disaster was God's revenge against women for their wicked ways.
Marluddin Jalil, who ordered women punished for not wearing headscarves, said, "The tsunami was because of the sins of the people of Aceh," reported The Times of London.
He went on to say: "The Holy Koran says that if women are good, then a country is good."
The disaster, which struck a year ago, is being used by Islamic hard-liners to target women, the report said. A Sharia police force, modeled after Saudi Arabia's moral police, is seeking female wrongdoers for public humiliation.
Additionally, more than 100 gamblers and drinkers, both men and women, have been caned in public and some clerics are calling for thieves' hands to be amputated.
"Another tsunami is possible," claimed Jalil. "The Holy Koran says that if humans don't listen to Allah they will be punished."
