Six people were injured on Sunday when a bomb exploded at the entrance to a McDonald's fast-food restaurant in the northeastern Turkish city of Trabzon, the Anatolia news agency reported.

"A bomb went off but we don't know what it was made of," Ramazan Akyurek, chief of security in the city, told the agency. "We have a description and we are working on it," he said.

"We don't know if it is the work of a [terrorist] organization.... Our sole aim is to be able to arrest" whoever was responsible for the attack, he said.

Witnesses questioned by the agency spoke of a young man running away from the restaurant.

"There was a huge noise as the windows... were smashed," said Zeki Akosy, who was nearby at the time. "At that moment I saw a man aged about 30 running away.... People were shouting 'catch him.'"

The injured, mostly teenagers, were taken to hospital.
