The couple filed their marriage license with Los Angeles authorities on October 7, formalizing the union that one report had claimed was faked amid a row over the financial terms of the marriage.
The blond bombshell's spokeswoman, Leslie Sloane, said the document had been filed well within the official 90-day limit, making the celebrity marriage final.
"They are legally married, the paperwork was filed yesterday [October 7]," Sloane said.
'People' magazine said the multimillionaire singer and her far less rich backup dancer beau formalized their union after signing their prenuptial that is aimed at protecting the assets of the wealthier spouse.
The couple, who began dating in April, married at a surprise ceremony at a friend's Los Angeles home on September 18. But 'Us' magazine later said Spears, 22, and Federline, 26, had staged a "faux wedding."
It claimed they delayed formalizing their marriage because their lawyers were still wrangling over how much cash Federline would be entitled to if the marriage collapsed.
The magazine said it had obtained a draft of a prenuptial contract stating that if the couple split, Federline would only be entitled to $300,000 a year for exactly half the term of the marriage, instead of 50 percent of Spears' total wealth.
Under the draft contract, Spears, who is reportedly worth anywhere from $32 million to $100 million, would also not be financially responsible for Federline's two young children by another woman.
But the singer, famed for such hits as "Oops, I did it again," and for her 55-hour Las Vegas marriage to a childhood friend in January, rebuked media claims she had not tied the knot.
"I'm really upset that somebody someplace decides to write a false headline about a special day that I've dreamed about since I was a little girl," she told 'People,' which reportedly agreed to pay $2 million to the couple for rights to the pictures of their wedding.
But even as Spears gained a husband, she lost a manager, parting ways with Larry Rudolph who has represented her since was 13.
Spears' camp said the split was made by mutual agreement after the contract for their nine-year-old management relationship expired.
"Britney and I simply realized that we have done all we can do together," Rudolph said in a statement.
