Turkish trade deficit widens

Turkey's trade deficit rose 10.4 percent to $45.3 billion in the first three quarters of 2007, the national statistics institute said Wednesday.

Imports increased 18.6 percent to $121.5 billion between January and September while exports were up 24.1 percent to $76.2 billion, it said.

In September alone, imports climbed 15.5 percent from a year earlier to $14 billion and exports increased 18.2 percent to $8.9 billion.

Turkey's trade deficit rose 19.8 percent in 2006 to $51.8 billion.
