AMMAN -- U.S. President George W. Bush was in Saudi Arabia Friday discussing rising oil prices and the Middle East peace process after joining the Israelis in celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their state, or the "Nakba" (catastrophe) to the Palestinians and Arabs.

CAIRO – If official statistics are anything to go by, Egypts economy is surging to ever greater levels. But try telling the man or woman on the street that the country reported a 7.1 percent growth rate in the last fiscal year and they will look at you in disbelief.

There is a Saudi Arabian joke that begins by asking, what is Riyadhs preferred price for a barrel of oil at the end of each of the next five years? The answer is $100 and $100 and $100 and $10 and $100. It usually takes people time to work out why this should be funny. The answer lies in the $10 price in the fourth year.

Al-Ayyam (West Bank): Bush pledges to support 'chosen people' in the face of terror – In his first speech to the Israeli parliament yesterday, US President George W Bush pledged to support Israel in confronting "terror" organizations, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the state's establishment, while the Palestinians commemorated their catastrophe. Bush described Israel as the "homeland of the chosen people," and briefly mentioned Palestinian aspirations to establish their own state.
