Eritrean President Issaias Afeworki was in Alexandria on November 12 to attend the 32nd anniversary of the investiture of Pope Shenouda III, the head of the Coptic Church.

The Eritrean leader has requested that Pope Shenouda set up an academy for Christian Theology in Asmara under the supervision of the Coptic Church. The Egyptian Coptic Church has recently accepted a Eritrean monk as the country representative to the church. RUSSIAN AGRICULTURAL DELEGATION VISITING EGYPT

The Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture Youssef Wali met with a Russian agricultural delegation on November 10. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on increasing bilateral agricultural trade. Egypt currently exports fruit, potatoes and rice to Russia. Wali said he believed that Egyptian agricultural exports could be doubled. BELGIAN FOREIGN MINISTER TO SPEAK IN CAIRO

The Belgian Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Louis Michel will speak at a meeting of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs on November 24. Head of the council Muhammad Shaker said the talk would cover the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Egyptian-EU relations. Shaker said the event is timely because it coincides with the current Egyptian-European partnership agreements.
